So…About #BlackComicsMonth
It’s February which means I do a huge spotlight on Black comic creators for #BlackComicsMonth, except this year I decided that I’m not going to do it. #BlackComicsMonth started a few years ago and it’s received so much notoriety and has done amazing things for Black comic creators and I’m extremely proud of the movement.
However, last year I decided that I was going to sit out doing #BlackComicsMonth for awhile. As you all know I’m disabled (and if you don’t know, now you know.) and I live with chronic pain. I created BCM to spotlight Black comic creators and promote their books. I wanted (still do) my people to be noticed, I wanted to show that there are talented comic creators in the Black community. We deserve to have a spotlight shone on us at all times. Unfortunately, I just don’t have the energy, let alone the resources to continue on with #BlackComicsMonth.
Don’t fret, #BlackComicsMonth isn’t completely dead. I will still continue to do #BlackComicsMonth: Inclusivity in Comics panels at comic cons. That will NEVER stop. The discussion needs to be had.

People crave inclusivity and representation in comics and I will continue to put on panels at comic cons.
Another reason why I decided to stop blogging on BlackComicsMonth.com is that I’m focusing on my own comics.Creating my own comics has proven to be stressful, fun, full of anxiety and 100% worth it! I’m contributing to #BlackComicsMonth, by putting out comics from a Disabled, Queer, Black Woman’s perspective. My voice matters. My stories matter. I matter. REPRESENTATION MATTERS.
Even though #BlackComicsMonth isn’t happening on the site, I will never stop preaching the gospel of inclusivity. If you have a comic that you’d like to promote on the site, which still gets tons of hits, or via twitter, reach out to me. Let’s talk. I do hope you all understand why I’ve decided to take a break from promoting Black comic creators like I have in the past. The website BlackComicsMonth.com is still available and you can read and learn more about Black comic creators there.
I hope to see you at the next #BlackComicsMonth: Inclusivity in Comics panel, and don’t worry, of course there will be a comics giveaway!
